The abundant supply of unfrozen water bodies, food sources and protection from hunting gives the otherwise urban desert the highest diversity (60 species) and density of wintering waterbirds in the state. Survey data assists in monitoring populations, conflict management and designation of future wildlife viewing areas. And it’s fun!
