Granite Reef Recreation Area lies along the Bush Highway, northeast of Mesa. Many different species of ducks, warblers, sparrows, shorebirds, and more can be found along the Salt River. Probable sightings include Gadwall, Bufflehead, Great Blue Heron, Killdeer, Lesser Goldfinch, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Bald Eagle, Yellow-rumped Warbler, and Ladder-backed Woodpecker.
Meet near the bathrooms at the Granite Reef Recreation Area parking lot on the north side of Bush Highway about 2.8 miles north of the Power Road exit off of Highway 202. All vehicles must have a Tonto NF recreation pass.

Difficulty: 3. Mostly level paths, although every now and we will encounter some sloping or difficult terrain. We will likely walk several miles over the course of the four hour walk, so be prepared with warm layers, water, and sunscreen.
